1974 has been proclaimed World Population Year by the United Nations. The purpose of the Year is to alert world public opinion to one of the major problems of our time the Demographic Explosion and to promote a better understanding of the issues involved, which could lead to positive and enlightened action on the part of government authorities and citizens alike.
