教科文组织携手拉美和加勒比妇女组织向全世界的妇女致敬，感谢她们的辛勤工作，及为建立一个更美好的世界而做出的奋斗。在我们希望的美好世界，所有人都将受益于平等的教育机会、体面的劳动、参与民主进程和平等分享科学进步和文化生活。该活动将介绍《拉美和加勒比妇女》一书，并讨论妇女权利和女性赋权，随后是关于由女性撰写或由女性启发的歌曲和诗歌的艺术表演。

这本书由拉丁美洲和加勒比地区17个国家合作编写，汇集了来自不同教育背景、社会地位和职业的17位非凡女性的传记，但她们的决心不止于塑造自己的命运，还是为了在人类历史进程中进行积极的考虑、充分的自我表达，并获得在公共空间的应有权利。
