Empowering Young Women Entrepreneurs in Africa through ICTs: Mobile App Solutions for Sustainable Development and the Changing World of Work

UNESCO organizes a side event on 13 March 2017 during the sixty-first session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW61). The event will focus on highlighting best practices in the framework of UNESCO’s YouthMobile initiative in preparing young women in Africa for the changing world of work.
Participants to this side events includes UNESCO representative, ITU HL official, Broadband Commission’s Working Group on Broadband and Gender, Smart Africa and a first lady champion (TBC), Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications in Senegal, Sonatel/Orange, Google, JigueneTech Hub, Senegal, Young women mobile app developers from West and East Africa and Martha from “Searching for Martha”.

Organized under the priority theme "Women's Economic Empowerment in the Changing World of Work", CSW61 will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 13 to 24 March 2017.

Representatives of Member States, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all regions of the world are invited to attend the CSW61.

This year the themes of the CSW are as followed:

- Priority theme: Women’s economic empowerment in the changing world of work

- Review theme: Challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls (agreed conclusions of the fifty-eighth session)

- Emerging issue/Focus area: The empowerment of indigenous women
