Better Education for Africa’s Rise II (BEAR II)
The Better Education for Africa’s Rise II (2017-2021) is a joint UNESCO and the Republic of Korea initiative to improve the relevance, quality and perception of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) systems of five countries in Eastern Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, the United Republic of Tanzania and Uganda). The project expands on BEAR I, which supported the TVET sector in five Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries: Botswana, DR Congo, Malawi, Namibia, and Zambia.
Capacity Development for Education (Cap-ED)
Capacity Development for Education (CapED) is one of UNESCO’s main capacity development programmes, focusing on strengthening capacities in three priority areas, including “skills for life and work”. This area comprises specific and sustainable capacity development interventions at policy, institution and individual levels in order to increase the number of youth and adults, especially girls and women, equipped with relevant skills for decent employment and entrepreneurship through improved planning, monitoring and delivery of skills development programmes. Targeted countries include Afghanistan, Benin, Liberia, Madagascar, South Sudan, Sudan and Togo.
Networks of Mediterranean Youth (NET-MED Youth)
The Networks of Mediterranean Youth (NET-MED Youth) is an EU-funded project aiming at mainstreaming youth issues and priorities across national decision-making and policy implementation in 10 countries of the Southern Mediterranean. The programme supports capacity-building of youth and youth organizations, and promotes their engagement in the development and implementation of national policies and strategies to improve access to employment and inclusion in different sectors. This includes strengthening national capacities to anticipate future skills needs and equip youth organizations representatives with appropriate competences to increase their role in the national dialogue on skills.
Skills and Technical Education Programme in Malawi (STEP)
The Skills and Technical Education Programme in Malawi (STEP) is a project aimed at strengthening the governance structures of TVET in Malawi by tackling specific challenges in the sector. The project is EU-funded and partially implemented by UNESCO and the Government of Malawi. It promotes equitable access to TVET; explores innovative financing systems to address the lack of resources in the sector; and supports the establishment of clear governance structures to enable all stakeholders to access quality and inclusive TVET systems.
