Meeting of the Steering Committee of the International Network of the Silk Road Online Platform

From 18 to 19 March 2016 the Steering Committee of the International Network for the Silk Road Online Platform will meet in Valencia, Spain. This meeting that will be organized in collaboration with the UNESCO Center of Valencia and the Municipality of Valencia aims to prepare the agenda of the Second Meeting of International Network for the Silk Road Online Platform to be held in June in Valencia. 

This meeting will be held on the margins of the “Las Fallas” festival which is one of the most important traditional celebrations on silk in Valencia. The city is the only one in Spain that still makes silk weaving on manual looms. Every year, it commemorates its long Silk Roads history with the participation of hundred thousand of its population in the different manifestations organized during these 3 days. The Fallas festivity has brought about a resurgence of traditional Valencian costumes, bringing back styles from the 18th century. All Fallas exhibit a critical content of social life and a tribute to beauty showing off the greatness of the local silk dresses.
